Everyone (18+)is invited to our Annual Christmas Tying Competition! A friendly night with beer and buds to try tying the best xmas fly...from pre chosen materials supplied by the shop. Garland, holly, tinsel, who knows what you will get when its your turn! Please bring a donation for food bank or a small donation for our Youth Club as a "registration fee".

Annual Xmas Fly Tying Night

Come one come all (18+) to our Annual Xmas Tie Night! Join us at the shop, bring a beer, and join in on our friendly competition. Competitors will be pitted against each other on a timer to turn out a fly. Sound easy?! Material list includes holly, tinsel, garland, cedar boughs, ribbons etc. You never know what you will get when its your turn! If you're up for a fun night and friendly competition join us on Dec 15 at 7pm at the shop! Registration fee is a non perishable item for the food bank or a small donation to our Youth Club. Single hand Basics is designed to get people started in the world of traditional fly casting. Throughout the day we will be covering the following.

    •    Line selection

    •    Rod selection 

    •    Sustained Anchors 

    •    Roll Cast

    •    Snap T Cast

    •    Single Haul Casting

    •    Double Haul Casting

    •    False Casting

With only 6 Seats available we maximize the one on one teacher student time. This one on one time is key in developing your skills to take to the Lake, River or Beach. 

All Gear is provided, but we suggest bringing your own gear so that you learn on what you will be using while on the water.  

Day schedule as follows;

    •    Meet at the Cumberland Fly shop at 8:45am to get geared up and meet the group

    •    Drive to Comox Lake suit up and go over Rod and Line selection

    •    Foot Positioning 

    •    Roll Casting

    •    Aiming at your target

    •    Lunch Break

    •    False Casting

    •    Single Haul Casting

    •    Double Haul Casting

    •    Review and summery of the day

ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY  Demo Day Fund-raiser

Cumberland Fly shop is excited to announce our one year anniversary and annual demo day fundraiser! 

This event will take place on April 29th in Cumberland, B.C. from 10am - 2pm.

We will be fund-raising for two charities the BCFFF and the Tsolum River Restoration Society  

There will be a number of draw prizes ranging from rods, reels, fly lines, flies, 

This is a non for profit event for everyone in the community to come out and enjoy and learn about fly fishing, sustainable fishing practices, local river restoration projects and much more.  

Throughout the day there will be professional casting demonstrations, and instructors on hand to help you brush up your casting or learn for the first time the basic fly fishing techniques.

Bring your own gear or try out some of our gear. There will be a number of demo rods and fly lines on hand for everyone to try out. Some of the rods that are going to be available for demo include: LOOP, C.F. BURKHIEMER and EPIC fly rods. If you have any questions about line and rod combinations this is the day to come and test it out and ask questions to our knowledgable volunteers and staff!

Demo Day Fundraiser

Demo Day Fundraiser

Cumberland Fly Shop, partnered with the Steelhead Society of BC and the BCFFF(federation of fly fishers) is proud to announce the first annual Demo Day/fundraiser. This event will be held on Saturday April 30th from 10am-2pm and is focused on raising funds for steelhead enhancement, and promoting the sport of fly fishing on Vancouver Island. 


Throughout the day we will be hosting fly tying demonstrations, single and double handed casting demonstrations. There will beinstructors on hand for lessons on casting and fly tying.  During the day there will be a chance to try out C.F. Bukheimer, Loop, Epic and Echo fly rods. 


We will be serving lunch by donation and having a raffle with prizes ranging from fly tying kits, rods, reels, lines, books, shirts, and hats. Our grand prize will be a full day guided river float during prime time for a species of your choice.  All proceeds will go to the SSBC,  BCFFF and two lucky kids to go to fly fishing summer camp through the Village of Cumberland. 


Join us at the shop in Cumberland at 2726 Dunsmuir Ave for contests and fly tying demos, and at Comox Lake Public Beach just past the boat launch for lunch and casting demos.
